Tightwad Marketing Moves To New Online HomeSan Diego, CA (PRWEB) July 13, 2009 — When veteran ad man John Kuraoka launched Tightwad Marketing in 2002, it was a 15 KB website hosted on his free CompuServe webspace. He created it to give small businesses, which frequently contacted him but could rarely afford his professional advertising copywriting services, a place to go for expert advice about small-business marketing on a tight budget. Over the years, the website grew, with how-to articles, resource lists, and even downloadable worksheets offering guidance on marketing topics from logo design to PR. And traffic grew as well. That came to a crashing halt on July 7, 2009, when AOL shut down CompuServe Classic, including its Ourworld hosting service, and thousands of websites went dark. Fortunately, Kuraoka heard about the shutdown the day before. And, he had secured the URL TightwadMarketing.com years ago. He managed to migrate the entire website to its own shared server just in the nick of time. The day after Kuraoka migrated the website, the previous version vanished forever. “I was amazingly lucky,” Kuraoka says. “The old site was still up and active, so I could download some files I needed directly from my browser - otherwise, I’d have been hunting all over my back-ups for them. The new site went up literally just as the old one came down.” “I must have received advance notice of the shut-down,” he says sheepishly. “But it was sent to my CompuServe mailbox, which I never checked.” Despite the frantic hours spent recapturing files, securing hosting, and uploading the site to its new home, Kuraoka is happy the migration was a success. “It would have been sad to lose that website,” he says. “It’s an independent, no-frills educational resource for small businesses, based on more than 25 years in the ad biz as a creative professional. It includes the entire small-business branding and marketing workshop I used to do with the local SBA, and lots of additional information.” “Unfortunately, links to the old site on Ourworld are now dead,” Kuraoka continues. “So if you happen to have the old site linked, I’d appreciate it if you would change it to the new, direct URL, http://www.tightwadmarketing.com - and new visitors are warmly invited!” About John Kuraoka © Copyright 1999-2002 MarketingFind.
