Further ReadingSearch engine marketing can be a daunting task, especially when search results change on a daily basis. Knowing what terms people search for to find your product or service can reap huge rewards in your search engine marketing strategy. That’s where WordTracker comes in. WordTracker shows you what keywords your competing sites are targeting while helping you enhance your own keyword list as well. WordTracker compiles a database of terms that people search for to find your Website. All you need is one search term to start with and WordTracker does the rest by displaying a variety of keywords and terms you would probably never even think of, showing you how often people search for them and how many competing sites use those keywords. Not sure what phrases people are using to find your site? WordTracker’s “comprehensive search” feature does the brainstorming for you. WordTracker shows you how popular keywords really are and displays their status on each major search engine. By targeting “related” keywords, you take advantage of phrases that mean the same thing, but are less competitive. For example, targeting “desks” is a competitive term with 2,040,000 results on Google. However, targeting “wooden desks” or “computer desks” allows you to target virtually the same traffic with less competition – Google displays 166,000 results for “wooden desks” and 814,000 results for “computer desks”. The key here is getting your site to rank high for the right keywords and phrases. It becomes more and more difficult to rank well when hundreds of thousands of sites compete for the same key keywords. This is not to say you should avoid optimization of your site for popular keywords, rather, use WordTracker to show you variations of your key terms so you can optimize for less common phrases as well. Also, for a lot of phrases, misspellings can be just as popular. For example, as search for “ tatoos” (as opposed to the correct spelling “tattoos”) generates 3,290,000 results in Google. WordTracker will show you the most common misspellings for your key phrase. This is another way to get a lot of traffic as no one typically researches what misspellings are being used. Usability You may test out WordTracker by downloading their free trial at http://www.wordtracker.com. Keep in mind, however, the free trial will only display your keyword results for AltaVista and not all the search engines – you’ll have to purchase the full version for that. © Copyright 1999-2002 MarketingFind.
